Race on Memorial Day for FL racers?
Written by David Van Raalte
Tuesday, 13 May 2008

Hello FL racers,

I need to find out how many of you would be interested in a points race at Auburndale Speedway on a 1/5th mile dirt track for  Sunday evening, 5/25, on Memorial Day weekend.

If you would like to do that please give me a call or e-mail me at microsprints@hughes.net. If we are able to get the car count, we may be able to get a money race.  Please keep in mind we have 2 races scheduled at Eastbay this year.  A good car count will determine whether we are able to race at Eastbay again.  We need all 250’s and 270’s to show up.  The 270 handicap will be determined at the driver’s meeting.  Thank you for your support.

Some details for this Saturdays race at Eastbay are:

  • Adults $12.00
  • Seniors 55 and up $10.00
  • Teens with ID  $7.00
  • Kids 12 and under are free with a paying adult
  • Pits are $25.00 for drivers
  • Gates open at 4:30
  • Driving tips class at 5:00
  • Driver’s meeting 5:15 to 5:30
  • Track’s driver’s meeting at 5:40
  • Hot laps at 6:00
  • Racing begins at 6:30
  • 1st place trophy to winner
  • COME TO THE TRACK READY TO GO, TIME IS TIGHT!

Dave

For the FL racers....
Written by David Van Raalte

Greetings racers,

I want to go over a couple things of interest.

*First, congratulations the Brandon Lineberger for his win at North Florida Speedway on April 12th and congratulations go to Evan Page for taking the checkered at Auburndale Speedway on April 25.

*Our next race is at Eastbay Raceway in Gibsonton on May 17.  We need every one to show up.  The car count is very important.  You pay the pit pass and there is a  $5.00 race fee for members only.

*Speaking of members, if you have not paid your membership dues along with filling out your membership form, please do so at the Eastbay race.  If you have not filled out/handed in your driver’s bio please do so.  If you need Recia to take the picture for your driver’s bio, let her know.

*While we are on the subject of the driver’s bios-the updated ones are on the web site!  For those of you who are not familiar with the site, click on Florida MicroSprints on the left hand side, then click on drivers bios.

*There will be a voluntary 25.00 fee for the purse collected at registration.  Details to follow.

*A training session on driver’s tips (the do’s and don’t of racing)will be held this week.  This training session will be mandatory for racers with less than one year’s driving experience.  There will also be mandatory meetings before hot laps. There are several important things that need to be discussed.   Get to the track early and stayed tuned for start times.  Any questions? Call Dave at 727-686-2155.

*In about 3-4 weeks when my 08 RTS frame comes in, I will be hosting a training class at my house on the total assembly of a 250 car frame to a race ready car.  This will be very helpful for you new racers.  Breakfast will be served!

*Some tips for the Eastbay race are:  14-38 gear, 61” left rear tire

                                        Hope this helps!

                                       Dave

Sprint (Spring) Cleaning

There has been talk about how to help all the guys with older cars that would like to start racing just not on the same level as a full blown 270, I know in the Montgomery area there are at least 20 cars just collecting dust hidden away waiting to be raced when the time was right, Well now is the time.

Lee Mason of the Wilson sprints wants to get out those older cars and do some racing! If you have an older car and would like to get back into action give Lee a call, they are looking into building a class of *Vintage* micros or a turf tire class that it super cheap and all about fun. There are several that would be game for the idea but more is needed. Call Lee and let him know if your interested @ 334-612-9262

A word from Dave on how he is doing
Written by David Van Raalte

This letter is coming to you from my home where I’m recovering from one heck of an a hit Sat. night.  My injuries include a couple of compressed discs in my lower back.  My upper body is extremely sore where the seat belts were.  After a couple of days to a week, I hope to be up and going.

I must say I’m thankful to God he didn’t take me home Sat. night.  I guess my work is not done yet.  Speaking of thanks, I would like to thank all of you who called or e-mailed me and expressed concern.  It is nice to know that people care and I firmly believe that you will reap what you sow.

I hope I can use this experience to benefit others.  One of the ways I hope use it is stressing the importance of safety gear.  It could save your life or reduce the severity of an injury.

Another point I would like to stress is CHECK EVERYTHING ON YOUR CAR BEFORE GOING OUT ON THE TRACK.  You might even want to have a quick checklist.  I can tell you that my wife will not let me out on the track until she sees me go through a checklist.  You see, on my car the heim nuts were not locked on the steering rod.  The vibration caused the  steering rod to back off because the nuts were not tightened.

Many of you have asked me how the car is.  It looks like the front clip is toast as well as some other components.  God willing I will be back soon.

If I have not heard  from you recently please call me.  I do not have a way to contact some of you and I would like to talk to you about our next scheduled race.  The next race is on a Friday night, April 25th at Auburndale Raceway. Please visit their web site for more info.  www.auburndaleracing.com  Pictures of the car before and after will be up soon.

Last night at Lake city speedway they had a good turn out of 270's with high speeds and wide turns the race went well until the feature.

David Van Raalte was running well up front until a malfunction in his steering sent him into the turn 3 wall at around 80mph, a mostly front end contact he went end over end over the concrete barrier, after the initial contact to land on his wheels. David took a very hard hit, luckily he had his belts tight and the safety equipment in the car worked well.

After a 9 to 10 min red flag the race continued with David taking a ride to the hospital after being checked out no broken bones but a few compressed disc in his back. he is currently recovering at home with lots of bruises and sore muscles.

Please keep David in your prayers to make a speedy recovery.

The final results of the race will be posted soon.

Please read-info about Theresa at RTS

Please note that Theresa’s father from RTS has passed away.  MicroSprints of Florida has sent them flowers.  They will be delivered on April 21st to RTS.  They are not going to be delivered until the 21st because I was told she will be out of the office until then.  For any of the FL racers who would like to see the arrangement that was sent to Theresa, Recia will have a picture of the arrangement at the next race on April 26th.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
